The Name of the Lord Works

The story of David and Goliath is a lesson to people that feel important, who see themselves as infallible, full of power and authority to work against your life and future, but forgot can be defeated and put to shame. Goliath put too much trust in himself and believed that no one can fight and win him as an experienced warrior. His confidence was in his height. The Bible called him a giant. So, he thought that would be an advantage to fight and win David. David was just a small young man who wasn't trained on how to fight and wasn't among the soldiers of Israel. He takes care of the flocks, so he knew nothing about going to the battlefield. Goliath also believed in his bronze armor, sword, and spear and javelin, as the sources of his defense to fight and conquer David. But David trusted in the name of the Lord Almighty, who will handover Goliath to his hands.

1 Samuel 17:45

“Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”

Goliath was taunting the Israelites every day to send their champion and went as far as strutting them, bragging as if he is the owner and author of the universe. David felt challenged and became motivated by this attitude to fight Goliath. The Bible said Saul was tall, yet he couldn't face Goliath. This tells you that whatever or whoever you are doesn't make you a victor. Only God can give you victory over every Goliath of your life. What is that challenge or someone or group of people bragging on their resources and power to intimidate you? I want to assure you that God is bigger than them. He will fight your battle and give you victory on whatever or those who are giant over your life if only you can trust in His name and His Word as the source of your power and confidence. We must learn that all power belongs to God Almighty and whatever you become today is to the glory of God, and not by your power. God is not a respecter of the proud, but He gives mercy to those who humble themselves.
