Weapons of Our Warfare
/Apostle Paul wrote this letter to the Ephesians while in the Roman Empire prison. There is no doubt that he understands what the soldier's armor is through his close interactions with the Roman soldiers. That is why he was able to encourage the believers in Ephesus to equip themselves with a powerful spiritual enemy. God knows that we are on a battlefield on earth, particularly with our first enemy, Satan, and knows that what we need to conquer him is the armor of God. God asked Satan in the book of Job 1:7 “From where have you come?” Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” What was he looking for and why was he walking about like a roaring lion? Looking for an empty vessel, a free and open life without Christ, a life without the spiritual substance, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). If Christians are careless, we can lose a battle or become casualties on the battlefield. That is why Paul tells us to take up the whole armor of God, get ourselves equipped to stand firm so that we can be protected from every attack and schemes of the devil.
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds as written in 2 Corinthians 10:4. It will be difficult for Christians to face the battle, win, and pull down strongholds against spiritual attacks if we are not armed with the belt of truth around our waist, if our hearts are not covered with the breastplate of righteousness, if our feet are not protected with the shoes of the gospel of peace, if we are not protected by the shield of faith if we do not wear the helmet of salvation to protect our mind, and if we do not carry the sword of the spirit to fight the devil.
Beloved, our most effective weapon to overcome the devil and his cohorts is the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Christian should model Jesus when He used the word of God to defeat the devil. The devil is cunning, but Christians must be wiser. Stand by the word of God, believe it, and it will work for you. Amen.
