We Are Strangers Here

1 John 2:15

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

Do you really understand what this scripture is saying because people often state that God blesses us with things from the world like cars, houses, etc. So are we not to appreciate these blessings from God and enjoy them? Yes you can enjoy them, especially if God saw favor in you and gave you a blessing of something from this world. The problem comes when we love and place the blessing of the material possession above the God we serve. We are not to love anything more than Him, and many Christians loose sight of God because of these worldly possessions. When He called you and saved you from eternity in hell, your loyalty, love, focus, energy should be directed only toward the Father who saved you for His glory and purpose.

In Romans 12:2 it states, “- And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

So even though we are in this world and receive blessings from God of things from this world, we are not to allow these worldly possessions transform our minds to sin against the God who chose us for His glory. We are to be transformed by the renewing of our mind and live according to what is pleasing and acceptable to the Father. In other words, we should love what He loves and hate what He hates. This would be acceptable to the Father.

He loves it when we don’t put idol worship before Him. He loves it when we seek His face and lean not to our own understanding. He loves it when we set our affection on things above, not on things on the earth. He loves it when we know the difference between living in the world but not being of the world because this world hates the Father and the Son. So if the world hates the one who saved us , then we should hate the world. We should appreciate the blessings of possessions from the world given by God but not put them above the Savior who saved us. That four letter word “love” is what we should stir away from when it comes to this world. We should not love this world or anything that tries to come before or be greater than our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. When we love things more than our God is when we are not living according to the word of God. This world, satan’s world, hates the Father and everything He represents, so we should also hate satan’s world and everything it represents.

Let’s strive each day not to get it twisted about what we are called to do while living in this world, which is to love the Father with our whole heart. Worship Him in spirit and truth. Trust Him through everything while on this earth until He comes back to take us to our real home in Heaven.
